Pretty bad I think this one, someone else uses her connection and she gets the fine. Apprantly there saying that security is down to the user, well don't they understand that people can actually break these things? also have they not seen certain ISP supplied network gear that no one can alter for better security? Or do they expect us to upgrade to the latest and greatest gear with all the security, theres still some old routers out there without even decent WEP. The case was in Germany, however it's just a sign of things to come for the rest of us. I guess its the same as would you be responsible if someone stole you car and then ran someone down?

Typical wifi user :

"German citizens are responsible for the security of their own private wireless connections, a court has ruled. The ruling comes after a musician sued the owner of a network connection that had been used to illegally download and file-share music. The owner had proof that the householder was on holiday at the time but the court ruled that the network should have been password-protected.The court's verdict was that the owner could be fined up to 100 euros (£86)."Private users are obligated to check whether their wireless connection is adequately secured to the danger of unauthorized third parties abusing it to commit copyright violation," the court in Karlsruhe said."
